Many people misinterpret the story and Kishi as a lame writer, misjudging him for the roles he put into his characters. Some even comment about how Kishi doesn't give equal "spotlights" to every character. Well, that's just that. People don't see everything about the way he writes. You have to analyze it. Also, you don't put people down because they aren't "in-born" special. If you look into Sakura's background, unlike every other ninja in her batch, she doesn't have a bloodline limit, or a well-knit bond of clan. She isn't born "special." Her parents are just average ninja, and once, in the anime series, they even mentioned her father to be a genin who has no chance to ever become a chuunin. People say that they 'hate' Sakura, but how typical is that reaction from people? It must be in human nature to befriend the 'rich' kid in class, or the smartest, or probably the kid whose dad owns the school. But what about the other ones, the obnoxious ones or the quiet ones or the weak ones? Don't even adults decide that they would rather take care of the smart kid than even try to discipline the obnoxiously weird ones? And what a society we have! Netizen Manga-readers can sometimes be so cold-hearted that they can hardly see the true message of the mangaka through his work. It is a shame.
With that, I conclude, Kishimoto is a wonderful writer. People should be able to pick up this manga and read its story for what it teaches and not only for the pleasure of cheering the good characters and/or bashing the bad or not so good ones. Perhaps it was about time that a manga like Naruto was written. Perhaps it may not reach several people, but it sure had inspired me. I grew up with Sakura. From her childish ways, I learned to see my own and improve them. I was a nobody, and so was she. She didn't like her forehead, I never liked my nose. But I grew past my weak self. Sakura is now an expert in medical ninjutsu, and I am now a graduate from the College of Nursing. People kept putting me down, not many noticed. I hid my grief through the smiles I projected in front of people, and I identified myself and many others like me, with Sakura. So I can basically say, Sakura's character is a worthwhile catch in this series. She is as genuine and as true as the other personalities Kishi has created in the manga.
